IceCube, the so-called strangest detector ever built, has captured the interest of researchers, journalists and engineers around the world but also of plenty of students and families of all ages
The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is pleased to announce a student internship program for high school students in the Madison, Wisconsin area. WIPAC interns will work with astrophysicists who support projects like the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole and HAWC, the High Altitude Water Cherenkov in the mountains of Mexico.

The WIPAC high school internship spring session begins today. Over twenty Madison-area students return to the program, a weekly meeting that exposes participants to physics, astronomy, and technology.

It’s not uncommon for teachers to take students on field trips. It gives the students hands-on experience and a chance to view classroom concepts firsthand. Madison-area teacher Juan Botella is about to take three students on the trip of a lifetime; the group is headed to Chile and then on to King George Island, Antarctica.
